The Role: AD / Director Engineering

Spyne is looking for an exceptional Engineering Leader (AD / Director) to own and drive the end-to-end engineering vision for our AI-first product suite. This is a high-stakes, high-impact leadership role at the heart of our technology evolution. You’ll work closely with tech, product, AI research, design, and GTM teams to deliver scalable, production-grade platforms, lead engineering squads across domains, and build systems that power the future of automotive retail. This is a zero-to-one, velocity-driven role where speed, ownership, and execution are everything.

What You'll Do

Technology & Architecture Leadership
  • Define and drive the engineering roadmap aligned with business goals and product vision
  • Lead architecture and infrastructure decisions for scalable, secure, and high-performing systems
  • Ensure product stability, scalability, and system health across multiple environments

Team Building & Execution Management

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of 15–25 engineers (backend, frontend, devops, AI)
  • Hire exceptional talent, establish best practices, and foster a culture of accountability and innovation
  • Oversee day-to-day engineering execution and delivery against sprint goals and product milestones

Innovation & Product Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product & Design to rapidly develop and iterate on product features
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to productionize computer vision and LLM-based capabilities
  • Champion a bias-for-action culture where experimentation and speed are valued

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as the tech bridge between product, sales, customer success, and operations
  • Set KPIs, conduct sprint retros, and manage progress reporting for leadership and stakeholders
  • Contribute to shaping company-wide technology strategy and long-term scaling decisions

What You Must Have

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with 3–5+ years in engineering leadership roles
  • Strong experience building and scaling distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
  • Proven ability to ship products at scale in high-growth, high-velocity environments
  • Familiarity with AI/ML workflows and productizing LLMs or Computer Vision solutions
  • Expertise in modern tech stack: Node.js, Python, React, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, K8s
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and architecture design sensibilities
  • Experience leading teams through change, ambiguity, and 0-to-1 product builds
  • Excellent communication and people management skills
